Volunteer Opportunities

VOLUNTEER WITH US!

Meet new people, help control tamarisk infestations, and have fun while you’re at it! We are gearing up for our third season of volunteer projects in McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area (MCNCA). The last two seasons we focused our efforts in Devils Canyon and with that area nearly cleared of tamarisk we will be moving on to Flume Canyon. It is our goal to control tamarisk in EVERY canyon in the MCNCA in the next two years. We have volunteer days scheduled beginning Saturday, Feb. 24, and running every other Saturday through June.

Volunteer Day Schedule (2007):
  • February 24 – in Flume Canyon
  • March 10
  • March 24
  • April 7
  • April 21
  • May 5
  • May 19
  • June 2
  • June 16
  • June 30
Get Involved:

If you want to help remove tamarisk in McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, please contact Elyse at the Tamarisk Coalition to register (970) 256-7400 or email Elyse at ecadogan@tamariskcoalition.org

A 2-Part Approach:
  1. Volunteer projects tackle the less dense stands
  2. The bugs will tackle the more dense infestations
We use handsaws, loppers, and weed wrenches to tackle the tamarisk and hope to have some herbicide applicators with us on the upcoming projects.

** We will provide breakfast (coffee, donuts, bagels, etc), lunch, raffle prizes, and tools. We hope to hear from you!
